easily be finding. Even there are different kinds of lilies one can find in this
world as far as size, color and shapes are concern. Also for borders and beds,
shrubs border, formal or naturalized pool plant, Lilies are the best choice for
plantation. Even in some cases, an alpine rock garden could be a good place to
grow special kind of small species of Lilies.
There are some very Interesting Facts about Lilies. As these Lilies are one of
the most beautiful, graceful flowers of all the flowers which grows and bloom in
summer season. Basically belonging the Lilium genus and are of about 100 species
known to us, these flowers are found in all parts of the Northern Hemisphere.
For the Madonna lily, name is derived from the Greek word ‘Lerison’, as belongs
to Lilium, the genus. A famous Swedish botanist Carl von Linne described Red
lily in first place, in 1753. These flowers are growing under human governance
for more than 3,000 years, i.e. more than any other flower used in making
ornaments. This long existence of Lilies proves its demand over other flowers.
During 18th dynasty in Egypt, a special design of
Lilies, namely Floral designs, showed
their presence and became very popular. This was the time when different
appearances of these flower, especially the Lilies, are so much needed that they
were indeed the most important part of someone’s garden. A special type of lily,
known as Madonna lily, is a typical archetypal
flower, reflects the purity. This
purity makes it comparable and associated with the Virgin Mary related to the
early Christian Mythology. It is said that Virgin Mary, along with Lilies, were
buried in her tomb which was as per the assumption that she will feel good in
heaven.
There are large varieties of Lilies present in this world. Asiatics and
Orientals are among those who are specifically very famous and popular and are
grown in large amount. This is widely use and are in great demand most of the
time.
Asiatic Lilies are basically small flowers with less fragrance and wide colors.
These lilies include Aurelian Lilies. Oriental Lilies are large flowers with
much stronger fragrance and few colors. The wild lilies are one of them.
The examples of Martagon hybrid lilies are Edible and Esculent herbs whereas
longiflorum lilies are strong in shape with sweet fragrance which are normally
white in color. As far as care is concern, this lily does not require watering
on daily basis. Instead it requires much water when provided by gardener so that
its soil would be wet with enough water so that it remains in such condition for
a long time.
As per the nutrients requirement, a balanced fertilizer is required after every
some weeks while it’s growing. But fertilizer with high nitrogen should be
avoided. The moment leaves turn into yellow, removal of stems should commence.
After the fall season is about to over, mulch removal should be started.

that open in succession for continuous blooming.

sub-tropical regions. Sometimes they may also be grown as potted
plants. A large number of ornamental hybrids have been developed.
They can be used in herbaceous borders, woodland and shrub
plantings, and as a patio plant.
Some lilies, especially Lilium longiflorum, as well as a
few other hybrids, form important cut flower crops. These tend to be
forced for particular markets; for instance, L. longiflorum
for the Easter trade, when it may be called the Easter lily.
